Hello world
Greetings employees. We’re Cold Zephyr Games — a UK-based indie studio behind the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Contact Protocol.
For those who missed their onboarding, Contact Protocol is a game about trust, office politics, and space gossip. It takes inspiration from Papers, Please, blending bureaucratic decision-making with a distinctive retro-futurist setting.
The game started as a final year university project by our team lead, Mick Hunter, and quickly started growing around the core mechanic of trusting strangers on a pass-by course in space.
This was a game that Mick had to make, being a Papers, Please fan himself. He even wrote his master’s thesis on Lucas Pope’s indie classic, and how it takes advantage of cognitive load in the human brain.
We’ve come a long way…
3 new team members, numerous exhibitions (including Comic Con) and a publisher later, here we are!
We signed with Kinetic Publishing in August this year and are their first game out of the gate. It’s still unbelievable and very much the job of our dreams. We’ll be pinching ourselves right up to launch.
We’re so fortunate to be making this game and can’t wait to give our fans the full Contact Protocol experience. That being stress, reactive narratives, gloomy sci-fi vibes and crunchy computer sounds.
Moving forward, we want to inform you all on our progress, challenges, and triumphs. So look forward to some more blog posts in the near future.
In the meantime, for a closer look at what we’re trying to achieve with Contact Protocol, and how we’re planning to get there, look no further than our YouTube channel.
Oh and stay safe in the space lanes…
